The Research

This questionnaire was developed from field research, and not from a desk top idea with no practical basis.

The Team Effectiveness Survey was developed over a four year time frame.

During that time, 108 management development workshops were conducted for seven different organisations using a common format.

As a component of those programs, participants were required to analyse all of the teams they had worked on, and determine what were the characteristics of a peak performing team.

The data generated at all of these programs was collected and then collated into a cohesive set of characteristics. This means that the input of 1290 Managers from front-line management up to Senior Executives have had their views expressed in the development of these characteristics.

The data was put through statistical analysis for consistency.

The characteristics were then used in team development interventions over a two year period to validate the effectiveness of the measures in actual team performance situations.

How do I use it?

The Team Effectiveness Survey is best used as a measurement input to Team Development workshop interventions.

It is best practice to use this measure pre and post intervention.

The pre intervention measure is used as an input to the workshop to ensure that real issues are dealt with and the post intervention measure is to validate that the Team is implementing strategies agreed in the workshop.

It is recommended that the post intervention measure take place 2-3 months after the workshop.
