The Research

The Pro-ActiveStress-Check instrument was initially used as a symptom checklist in a medical office in 1982. Development of the instrument began with research at Northern Illinois University in 1978, through the bio-feedback research program. It was designed as a non-medical intervention technique to assist in reducing the symptoms that one has during stress-producing events.

Most stress instruments in the marketplace provide information about the two most common stress responses: Elevated physical and elevated psychological responses. Elevated physical responses include rapid heart-rate and muscle tremor, among other symptoms. Elevated psychological responses include thoughts racing, and reduced ability to concentrate. These two categories of symptoms account for about 78% of the population's stress responses. The remaining 22% of the population do not fall into these categories, and therefore need to be included in the symptom checklist.
