The Leadership Benchmark™ has been developed from the research and work carried out by organisational psychologist Dennis Pratt ("Aspiring to Greatness - Above and Beyond Total Quality Management". Business and Professional Publishing, Sydney 1994).
Dennis Pratt developed the output oriented approach through researching the factors that make managers effective and why organisations fail through 30 years of organisational consultancy. In particular, it was through his study into organisational design and structure that he identified the four conditions established by leaders who were seen by others in the organisation as effective leaders.
The Leadership Benchmark is primarily used as an input to a Leadership, or Executive Development Intervention, either workshop or structured training program.
The person being assessed needs to provide a list of the people they wish to have as their raters, along with the relationships of those raters to
themselves (Self, Manager, Peers, Direct Reports).
Emails need to be customised for the organisation and organisationally
specific introduction and privacy screens also need to be developed prior to
implementing the process.
Once this is done, all raters are invited to respond and are given,
individual, secure login codes to access the system to complete the
questionnaires.
The facilitator can review the status online at all times.
The system automatically reminds people who have not responded within the
project timelines.
When all raters are complete, the facilitator can either print a hard copy
at their own desktop, or flick a switch to enable the person to view their
own reports
The reports show the currently rated performance as well as an indicator as
to whether the Leader should do the same amount, more, or less of this
activity.
It is an insightful reporting mechanism.
