Peer and Upwards Assessment
What is it?
Peer and Upwards Assessment is a subset of a 360 degree process.
In a full 360 degree process, a person's behaviour is rated by themselves, their manager, their peers, and their direct reports.
Peer and upwards assessment does not include the direct reports, or staff, in the assessment process.
Peer and Upwards Assessment is typically used for application to technical experts where they do not actively manage staff. They perform a technical role with no people management function.
The process for conducting a Peer and Upwards Assessment is the same as for a 360 degree process, without seeking the views of direct reports. That is, three views instead of four.
How can it be used?
Peer and Upwards Assessment is useful for input into the following processes:
- Training Needs Analysis
- Personal Development Plans
- Performance Management
- Career and Succession Planning
- Cultural Change Planning
